Tenby’s experience spans the private business sector, government entities, the military, and charitable / not-for-profit organisations.

He was educated at the University of Waikato, gaining a Master of Management Studies in International Business with First Class Honours, and was awarded Distinguished Alumnus in 2010. He also attended Harvard Business School and was educated in the New Zealand Defence Force where he holds the rank of Colonel in the Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment.


Tenby held senior management positions in leading New Zealand corporations prior to forming private investment company, Hunter Powell Investments Limited in 1999.


His mix of commercial, military, government, and not-for-profit experience has created a rich and deep cross-sector knowledge base enabling an ability to work effectively with diverse cultural and socio-economic groups domestically and internationally.


In May 2022, Tenby founded Kiwi K.A.R.E (Kiwi Aid & Refugee Evacuation), a registered New Zealand Charitable Organisation which has been operating in Ukraine since May 2022, delivering hundreds of tonnes of humanitarian and medical aid to Red Zone hospitals and front-line medical units, and conducting thousands of civilian evacuations.


In 2026 he became an Officer of New Zealand Order of Merit for services to business, governance and the humanitarian sector, and that same year was awarded the Ukrainian Order of Merit by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for outstanding humanitarian service and leadership through Kiwi K.A.R.E.
